Black bean Burger

Hey! Now I love a good black bean burger- often from the frozen section though. However, I wanted to move past absorbing all the preservatives and attempt to make a bb burger from scratch! Although I’ve been a veg head for several years, I have never attempted this before and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to make.

The simple ingredients are listed below, followed by how to make them:

What you will need:

The Beans- I used just 1 can of black beans

The Corn- 1/4 of a can of fire roasted corn

Seasonings- Cumin, Chipotle Chile, Jamaican Jerk pepper, Chipotle Roasted Garlic and Chipotle Pepper Sauce (oh did I say we were making this SPIIICYY) and Pico de Gallo

1 Medium Size Egg

Bread crumbs

How to make:

Place beans and corn into a drainer (separately) and make sure all of the liquid from the the corn and beans are drained and then rinse beans and corn with water.

Move beans into a large mixing bowl, smash them until most beans are in a soft consistently- leaving a few beans whole.

Next, add in corn, seasoning, pico, bread crumbs and egg. I usually eyeball my seasoning- so season to your liking! Now mix everything all together, then roll mixture into a ball, add them to a skillet on a medium heat and let cook for about 10 minutes (don’t forget to flatten the mixture after you place them in the skillet :).)

There you go! You have made your first spicy black bean burger, from scratch!

Take care,

Gwena’e
