5 ways to help anxiety

  1. Breath Slowly- often, when we feel anxious, our hearts beat fast, our minds runs rapidly and thoughts become irrational. It’s important to remember to breathe slowly to allow us to process our thoughts in a healthy way.
  2. Has Thought Been Proven?– Anxiety and stress can lead to beliefs that are not true. Writing is another way to process our thoughts and take time to determine whether a decision is being made based on facts or based on emotion.
  3. Does Thought Bring You Peace?– Anxious and overwhelming thoughts can come suddenly or slowly creep up on us! To determine whether a thought is anxiety based, pay attention to your body. Do you start getting a headache, are you sweating, do you feel nauseous? These symptoms can be anxiety based and it’s important that you recognize body cues to better cope with them.
  4. Seek Out Support- Talking about anxiety out loud to a trusted person, can not only help you feel supported, but helps you get out of your own head! When we say our thoughts out loud, we give ourselves permission to let go of anxious feelings. Additionally, people can help us sort out our irrational thoughts.
  5. Say an Affirmation– Speak gently to yourself. You are strong, you are human, you are capable. Tell yourself all of your abilities and what you love about yourself. Please pour life and happiness into your life, it is one of the best ways to engage in self-care.
