As we approach the ending of holiday season, I am reminded how family is not only important for development, but essential for growth as well. This Christmas, I am grateful to have spent time with some of my loved ones, but especially my dad. He reminded me about the importance of where you come from. He also helped me to understand where I get some of special kinks and quirks from, and how they influence how I show up in this God-created earth. He shared that he likes the simple things in life, has found peace with simplicity and tends to avoid conflict/ complication, all while understanding that despite avoidance, conflict and complication will eventually come; which I connected with. I enjoy simplicity as well, and even try to avoid complication, but still have not quite mastered having peace and understanding when conflict arises. From my understanding, I feel as though he means that if and when we know what causes chaos and complication in our lives, we should avoid this. We shouldn’t seek or draw towards things that cause harm, mentally. However, things that give us peace on the inside, things that gives us internal joy, that we don’t have to constantly think or fight with, we should run towards. Seeking simplicity will be my self-care this week.
For the remainder of the week, my self-care goal is to read at least two of the four days that are left in this week. This is a simple, yet peaceful goal. And when and if conflict arises when trying to read, I will simply say, “ I am reading right now, I will get to you when I am finished”.
How you will engage in a simple self-care activity this week?
